From a young age, Nanette was driven by the desire to create, but her life was also filled with plot twists and challenges. It wasn’t until she embraced her creative spirit that the magic happened and the artistic journey came full-circle. In her lecture, Creative Journey-Finding your Artistic Voice, Nanette shares motivational techniques to feed your inner creative and find confidence to develop your own artistic style.

Nanette has been sewing since she was 10 and quilting since 2001. She is an author, instructor and award-winning artist whose artwork and writings have been published internationally. Her work has been featured on the Quilting Arts TV and in Quilting Arts Magazine.

Nanette earned a master’s degree in wildlife biology from North Carolina State University. She found her artistic voice in 2005 when she began combining her skills to create nature-inspired innovative mixed-media textile art (generically referred to as art quilts). Her work is heavily embellished with thread to create beautiful textures.

In a hands‐on process, Nanette will show students how to successfully use fabrics, stabilizers, threads in their thread painting projects. Students will learn techniques to layer and blend thread colors. Tips will be presented to help students develop their own style and use their newly found free-motion embroidery skills in their quilting projects.
