Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association

SCVQA offers two types of retreats.

In Town Retreats - Sewing retreats are held locally for members to get together and sew for a weekend in a group setting.

Marin Retreats - Sewing retreats are held in scenic Marin for members to get together and sew for a weekend in a group setting.

In Town Retreat: The Fun, Easy Escape

For many years the association has offered an In-Town Retreat in February and September. We accommodate 28 people for a three day sewing spree close to home. This makes an easy escape to just pile everything in our cars and drive a few miles across town. If you forget something just make a quick trip to nearby quilt shops or home.

Our venue of choice is the Aloft Hotel in Mountain View (formerly the Hilton Garden Inn), on El Camino Real just a mile east of Freeway 85. The sleeping rooms are luxurious with small refrigerators and very comfortable beds. The hotel has an exercise room and a pool. The food is usually superb. The fees include two nights (Friday and Saturday) and meals from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch, including afternoon snacks. You can share your room with a friend or have a private room. We have the use of the spacious, light filled conference room from Friday mid-morning through Sunday late afternoon. We generally have a masseuse come on Saturday and you can make private appointments.

Each sewist has their own power bar and a "conference" table (18" x 6"). There is enough space to accommodate individual small side tables or Sew-Ezi tables. The hotel provides our sewing rooms with four irons and ironing boards.

Registration for these events fills quickly and is on a first come, first served basis.

Registration is mail-in only, using the sign up form in the newsletter.

For the February retreat the registration appears in the previous November newsletter and for the September retreat registration is in the June newsletter. Come and join the fun!

Cancellation Policy. A full refund will be made if the notice of cancellation is received up to 30 days prior to the retreat date. If less than 30 days a full refund will only be given if a replacement can be found. Priority for an available opening will be given to persons on the wait list.

The Marin Retreat: A Vacation For Your Senses

The SCVQA Marin retreat offers a unique place to sew while enjoying wonderful food, and being inspired by nature. It's a great way to interact with approximately 25 creative, and fun-loving guild members. Our retreat location, The Marin NatureBridge, is a decommissioned military base nestled in the Marin Headlands. Our home-away-from-home is the Sunset Lodge where we sew and socialize to our heart's content.

The views from the Sunset Lodge are what make this location so special, with mountains to the right and the Pacific ocean to the left, there is truly inspiration all around us.

The only schedule you need to keep is for meals, and you don't want to be late for them! Meals are served buffet style in the dining hall, which is about a quarter mile from where we sew. The chefs are wonderful and do a good job of catering to us. The Marin Headlands is able to support those who are vegetarian, vegan and/or dairy free. The Head Chef and Sous Chef had their training at Culinary Institute of America. Some of our favorite meals include pork roast, the best cream of mushroom soup, and wonderful cheese blitzes. There is always fresh fruit and a salad bar.

Most of us sleep in one large dorm room with bunk beds, and Nature Bridge usually is able to reserve all bottom bunks for our group. For an additional fee, there are a few semi-private rooms, also with bunk beds. We use a community bathroom and sometimes we share the dorm with other guests. The sleeping quarters are adequate, though not the main attraction.
